Meet Moose. Moose is a young, 18 month old pit bull terrier that we rescued from the floodwaters in the devastating Nashville floods nearly a year ago. We don’t usually take in the bully breeds as we are not really equipped to handle them (they are a wee bit bouncy), but we weren’t going to leave him to drown. Moose was traumatized by the flooding and developed severe separation anxiety as a result. Moose spent six months with a trainer and graduated with flying colors. He is ready for a home. This boy is fine with most other dogs of the non-dominant variety, but we do not trust him with cats and very small animals. He is exceptionally obedient and eager to please and he is a love bug. Moose is tiny by our standards at maybe 45 pounds and he is a ball of puppy energy. He needs someone who will give him good mental and physical activities to keep him happy and occupied. He is perfectly crate and house trained and he is a great dog. He is a pit bull, so he will take longer to place than our other dogs and we want this sweet boy to have a most excellent home after all he endured. If you are interested in adopting or fostering this boy, send an email to jean@bigfluffydogs.com. He is in Nashville at this time. Feel free to cross-post this boy to the world at large.
Meet Sinjin. This little guy, and we stress little at 38 pounds, is an honorary big fluffy. We got fooled by shelter pictures and expected him to be much larger than he is. We’re not sure what he is, but we are thinking retriever with sheltie. He does well with everything and everyone and is just a love. If you like big dogs but actually need a smaller dog, this is your guy. He’s adoptable of course.
Meet Clover, the 7 month old Old English sheepdog/Great Pyrenees puppy. She has inherited the coloring from the Old English, but her fur is more Great Pyrenees-like. She is a sweet, calm, friendly dog and she is well-mannered and a near perfect pet for a family.
It’s been a nasty year weather-wise in the South. Weeks of storms have leveled entire communities. One of the coordinators for Big Fluffy Dog Rescue had her home damaged by the storm. Tina suffered damage to her home and has not yet gotten back to where she was.
So much for the fence…
This morning, the Big Fluffy Dog van that has transported countless dogs burned to a crisp after an electrical fire started:
We said “Burning Man festival” Tina, not Burning Van.
Tina also lost her car seats (there’s no such thing as a transport without the three and six year olds in tow), the GPS system we use to find our way to get dogs and all her phone chargers. Her three year son Aiden lost his Batman cave which was along for the ride. We also lost several large crates that melted beyond use. If anyone would like to donate car seats, crates or a Batman cave for a distraught three year old, please email jean@bigfluffydogs.com. Thanks as always from the Big Fluffy Dog world.
My what big ears you have. Meet Rose, a 7 month old husky mix with enormous bat ears. She is friendly, sweet and perfectly well-mannered in the house. She is on the small side at barely 30 pounds and will not be large. She is gorgeous AND is good with cats, dogs and kids.
UPDATE 4/23/11: Jade is in a temporary foster home and is ready for a forever home. This girl is fabulous. She is in great condition just slightly skinny, and she is a love bug. She wants to be petted and she will follow you around demanding attention. Jade does well with cats and dogs and all people. She is quite spry and is more active by far than my nine year old Great Pyrenees and 8 year old Newfie/Pyr. She is housebroken, jumps in the car to go for rides and walks well on a leash. In short, she’s perfect.
NEW PICS:
Jade smiling
Jade loves to hang out with her people.
Jade is looking for a retirement home
Jade is a 10 year old female Great Pyrenees. She was brought in to a vet by her owner who had no further use for her since she could no longer work goats and he asked that she be euthanized. The vet called a rescue who called us and Jade came to Big Fluffy Dog Rescue. Jade is a very sweet, easy going soul who deserved a better end than what her owner was going to give her. Jade is underweight, but is otherwise in good condition. She is ready for a home.
Meet Oliver and Olivia. These two adorable siblings need a foster home in the Delmarva area by this weekend. If you can help, please email Jennifer at jennifer@bigfluffydogs.com. Of course, they are both adoptable, too.
Brandon is a very large, very laid back 3 year old Great Pyrenees/golden retriever mix. He is an absolute love of a dog and believes he is merely a slightly oversized lap dog. Brandon is best as an only dog as he does fine with most dogs, but sometimes, he just wants to be alone. He is an angel in the house and is great with people of all ages, from toddlers to the elderly. This is an outstanding dog.
Here’s one you won’t see everyday. This puppy is 11 weeks old. He is a poodle/Great Pyrenees/border collie/? mix. He has mega fluffy curly ears, medium body fur, fat paws, a stumpy tail, and a playful, outgoing dispostion. We’d like to claim we know how big he’ll be when he grows up, but with that ancestry, we think it’s anyone’s guess. What we do know is that he is adorable, sweet, feisty and smart. He will be a great fit for a family who wants a smart, active dog to go hiking with.
Serena is a 16 week old female basset hound/Great Pyrenees mix puppy. We know what you’re thinking and we can’t explain the mechanics either. Serena is a big girl and will be a quite large dog as an adult. She is easily 40 pounds right now. She is friendly, outgoing and just adorable and best of all, she’s adoptable.
Rowan is a brown mutt of indeterminate origin. She is an honorary fluffy because of our ‘No Dog Left Behind’ policy which states that if we take the cute dog from the shelter, then we tithe by taking the not as beautiful one getting no attention in the kennel run. Rowan is between 3-5 years of age, weighs 40 pounds and is so well-behaved. She does well with everyone and everything. She loves to play with squeaky toys, but she is a low to medium energy dog. She needs a foster immediately, so if you are in New England and can help foster her, please email jean@bigfluffydogs.com.
UPDATE: Amelia is safe and sound in a foster home in Nashville, TN. Many people have asked what her service was. Based on her behavior, we believe her to be a weight-bearing service dog. She is a chunky girl at nearly 80 pounds. We do not know if she was placed by an agency or which one, unfortunately. She is not a candidate for any further service work as she has significant arthritis in her back end and she is deaf. She is not yet adopted, so if you are interested, please click on the how do I adopt a dog link and fill out the application. Thank you to everyone for the cross-posting.
Amelia is in need of a home
Meet Amelia. Amelia is an 11 year old female lab mix that served her entire life as a service dog. She is alive now only because a vet contacted us. Amelia’s owners took her in to be euthanized because, as a service dog, her usefulness was over because she could no longer handle their weight. The vet was outraged as were we. Amelia is a happy, sassy and spunky dog who still loves to play. She is exceptionally obedient and just an amazing dog. She does have some arthritis, but the vet was not overly concerned. She is otherwise in good condition and will make a nice pet for some very wonderful and lucky family. She is currently in Tennessee.
Buster came to us a week ago. He was matted so badly he could not move his legs freely. Buster was groomed and cared for by the great people at Pampered Pets in Nashville who made him as comfortable and happy as he could be. However, by yesterday, Buster could not walk or stand and we took him back to the vet for a series of xrays and tests. Sadly, Buster suffered a massive stroke this morning and we had to say goodbye. Buster did not know a life of great comfort and companionship, but he had one week where he was the center of everyone’s universe. Buster got his day in the sun in the cool green grass on a sunny spring morning with the birds singing and the wind ruffling his fur. For that we are grateful, but it’s not enough. Until every dog gets that day in the sun, we will continue our work. God speed, Buster.
Meet Mallory. Mallory is 2 -3 years old and she is Molly’s Mom. Mallory is a shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix and she is on the small side for us at 55 pounds. Mallory has excellent manners and loves everyone and everything. Her favorite thing in the world besides steak and tummy rubs is a squeaky toy. Mallory will make an excellent pet for pretty much any family.
Meet Max. This is a 5 year old lab/Great Pyrenees mix who who is looking for a foster home. Max is extremely sweet and does well with most dogs so long as they don’t try to dominate him or otherwise beat him up. Max is epileptic and takes medicine, but it is well controlled and he is in good health. Rescue provides all medication. He is in NH at the moment. He is of course adoptable as well. This is a really awesome guy.
Meet Molly, a German Shepherd/collie/Great Pyrenees mix. This little girl is 12 weeks old and has some significant health hurdles. Molly came in to rescue with her Mom and both had suffered terrible malnutrition. As a result, Molly has rickets and her front legs are deformed. She also has demodectic mange (not contagious) and her poor little autoimmune system is struggling to get her healthy. Molly is slated to see a surgeon to address her front legs. She needs a foster home in Tennessee that can manage a puppy who requires care. She is very sweet, outgoing and friendly, but she is likely facing surgery. If you are interested and can help, please email Tina at tina@bigfluffydogs.com.
Jackson is a 2 year old male Great Pyrenees. He gets along well with everyone and everything. He is a big, beautiful, boy and he will make a wonderful companion.
Brandon is a 2 year old male Great Pyrenees/golden retriever. He is a big dog at 100 pounds and he is a friendly, easy-going swe,et dog. He is currently in Tennessee and needs a foster for the next week before he heads up to his forever home. If you are interested in fostering, let us know.
Meet Cash. Cash is a 2 year old male yellow lab/Great Pyrenees mix. Cash is a gentle, sweet soul who is well-mannered and easy-going. He is playful without being spastic and he does well with other dogs and he loves people. He is tall and good-sized without being huge. This is an awesome dog.
Roscoe is a mellow guy looking for a sofa to call his own
Roscoe is a big, lazy (with occasional bursts of energy) mastiff/Great Pyrenees mix. Roscoe is an owner surrender to us for financial reasons. He is 14 months old and he is looking for a home all his own. Roscoe is good with kids, and is fine with other dogs, but we think he likes it better as the lone dog. He would make a nice pet for a family that wants a big dog that plays well with others, but can be left on his own.
Abigail is an 11 week old female Great Pyrenees mix puppy. She is sweet, smart and 100% adorable puppy. She is ready to head to a home this weekend. She is available to homes from Tennessee to New England, but speak quickly.
It’s pretty hard to believe this girl has been waiting for a home for 5 months. Jasmine is a 7 month old mastiff mix and she came from an Alabama shelter. No one wanted her so she was rescued by our Delmarva wing and is in foster in Elkton Maryland. If you are interested in adopting this adorable puppy, leave us a comment and we’ll put you in touch with her coordinator. Any dog who can play patiently with seven week old puppies without wanting to eat them is a gem.
